Today YouTube notified me that Fun With Shorts has been reviewed and reclassified as ineligible for monetization. In English that means I can’t run ads and make money.
I’d already lost about half of my ad revenue there due to spurious copyright claims on the background music in the shorts, but now I’ve lost it all because (in Google’s words) my videos consist of “someone else’s content.” It seems they (and/or their algorithm) don’t really understand what riff videos are. I can reapply in a month, but I don’t imagine it will do much good.
I’m telling you guys about this to keep you informed. I’m still producing videos and I’ll still post them on YouTube, but now Patreon is my sole source of funding. I’m not asking any of you for more money, you’re the ones who are already supporting me and I’m exceedingly grateful! Some of you have already upped your pledges and a few of you are new patrons today. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
See you again very soon with a new short!
-Josh
PS - Thank you.
