Fun With Shorts! Animal Cunning [PATREON EXCLUSIVE!]

This is the first time in FWS history that I've felt compelled to put a sort of TRIGGER WARNING on the video. There's some straight-up cruelty to animals in this short. It's nothing too intense, about at the level of the "Catching Trouble" short on the old MST3K. There's still fun to be had with this short, but I wanted to give the more sensitive among us a heads-up.

Uh, Happy May?

I agree. Josh, you didn't let this short get away with anything. And you changed the embarrassing "lessons" into ones that will better pass the test of time.

This is definitely one to approach with caution, but once children are old enough to watch with a trusted, thoughtful adult, this can teach all the unintended lessons about some things humans do wrong.

You handled this one well. This short really stands out in sheer WTF-ery. However, I feel that content like this *should* be seen. Animal Cunning, like Catching Trouble, has a valuable role in showing what was passable in the past, as well as unsavory filming practices, like the staged animal fights. On top of that, you provide a healthy narrative/riffing/mockery that helps keep us from being depressed by this 'educational' film from the 1930's.

No worries, Josh. It was my bad I didn't read the disclaimer first.

So sorry about that. I made the call to go ahead with this one even though it disgusted me. I'll be more careful about the content in the future.

Wishing I would've seen the warning on this one. Just wow... I couldn't finish it. Seriously, the saddest short I ever saw. Is it just me or does everyone wish the sloth and Iguana would've bit the nuts off the man being cruel to them?

Stacy and Josh Lemonds

appreciate the warning Josh

I was going to express an ardent hope those were unfiltered cigarettes (even so, WHAT THE HELL), but I didn't know until I looked it up that cigarette filters are made from cellulose, which a deer, being a ruminant, could actually digest, unlike when they're eaten by birds. Still though. WHAT. THE. HELL. Not sure what the heck is cunning about most any of this behavior.
