That is interesting background. I’d be interested to know what was added from the book to pad out this movie and how part 2 will be handled.

What frustrates me about the musical version of Wicked is that they take three very complex central characters from the novel and say "let's add this love triangle with the same dynamic from Aida since it's popular right now." Not that Radames is less complex overall, but Fiyero is so different in the book from how he is in the musical that I had a hard time until I just kind of watched the musical in grad school and let it be.
I feel like Wicked Part 2 will be a lot less of an event as Part 1 is the happy, lighthearted, buddy buddy section of the story (relatively) and Part 2 is more of the real tragic story. Hopefully they will really bring in more of the book for that, to flesh out Elphaba's actions during that period instead of letting them be a bit vague.
I'm still looking forward to watching this since I'm familiar with the material and I know what I'm getting into! I really recommend the book, but maybe not for Gloria just yet. It's... Complicated. I do love Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister as well and I wish that got more credit instead of a made for TV movie.
