Thanks, everybody. Reading between the lines, I’m seeing lots of love for the riffs and not so much for the podcasts or movie reviews. And I get it. I do like the audio commentary idea, tho. I will process this feedback and do some scheming.

I know that I am just going to be supportive through everything but I do enjoy full commentary tracks from time to time! I've listened to a few podcasts that were that and even when I'm not watching along with the movie it can be fun.

That sounds like fun, but streaming of any kind doesn’t really fit into my current ecosystem. Maybe someday.

Not gonna lie, nostalgia for the Riff Raff Theater days was part of the inspiration behind the streams.

One issue is that the people who are willing to pay for riffs is not the same audience as people who would be willing to pay for movie reviews (as one example). If I were to come across someone else who was doing drawings or legit movie reviews right now, would I signup to support their Patreon? The reality is, "No". I don't go to movies enough, and I own enough DVD's that I could easily keep myself entertained to the end of my life without ever going to a theater to see a new movie. Note: That does not mean that *no one* would support a Patreon channel which did movie reviews, but you have to find the people who want movie reviews and it's probably not the same group of people who enjoy riffs. It might even be a larger audience, but it won't be the same people. The second issue is that there are now so many people who try to make a full-time job out of being a YouTube creator (or Twitch creator, etc) that it's got to be much harder to find and build an audience from scratch. I have no idea how to do this, and especially no idea how to do it as a secondary side-job instead of a full-time job.

This sounds something like the project Riff Raff Theater back in the early days of iRiffs. Except they went into it as a full-fledged project, which eventually got too time-consuming for the main guys in the project.

You might not be interested in this, since it can raise questions of joke ownership, but something I've been doing on my Patreon for the past couple of years is writing riffs on livestreams, involving the patrons in the joke braintorming process. It's not only a good community building activity; it helps me as a writer know what sort of things jump out to the audience in the riffed film and are worth commenting on.

How do you try to get new eyes on your stuff? RiffTrax fans? Dumb Industries is a new pretty active community that came up during covid. Frank and Trace and Mary Jo make content for them. They got a discord channel and the usual socials

I would need to upgrade my equipment to do this, but it might be fun.

Josh Way

Maybe interactive streams, like twitch? Could draw or play games while chatting, not sure how much a crowd you'd get at first tho

David Pinkston

I actually love that idea! I guess I wouldn’t have imagined that anyone would want to hear me talk that much, but I would love to do some commentaries.

Josh Way

Have you considered a syncable commentary track, like rifftrax from the old days? Even if it's like, not a riff.
