Hey everyone! Next week we're going to have SuperButterBuns on as our guest for the podcast! For those who aren't familiar with her, she runs a pretty big YouTube channel where she talks a lot about Final Fantasy and other jrpgs! You can check out her stuff here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKn72wsF89-DxlA1jlq_fUA

If you guys have any fun, thought-provoking topics, or any questions specifically for her, let me know here in the comments! Thanks!

Podcast Questions For SuperButterBuns!

Comments

Too late to ask my question now, but just like to say that I think the podcast you guys put together is fantastic and really hope that by becoming a patron I can help show that your work is appreciated.

The Electric Underground

Not a question but a plea to Buns - get the Dark Pixel crew on board with the Shin Megami Tensei games. They are missing out!

I have a question about reviews; A review is basically the reviewers own opinion on a product. What you do Mike, when you review a game like Final Fantasy XIII, is listen to the opinion of fans of the game - as you don't particularly like the game :). How important do you think it is for a reviewer to listen to the voice of fans when you're reviewing a popular game? Obviously it's not something every reviewer can do, but do you think it's important for bigger reviews - like the ones you do - several years aften the game came out? I guess I just want to hear your guys thoughts behind the discussion videos and the reviews you make :).

This is a question I have been wanting to ask SuperButterBuns for so long: who is the best Persona waifu and why is it Yukiko? In all seriousness, what are all of your thoughts on "waifus" in video games and other aspects of Japanese media? Does it encourage some of the more toxic aspects of Otaku culture, objectification of women, or is it harmless fun?

Long time follower (recent supporter) of both Dark Pixel Gaming and SuperButterBuns here. Two part question: If you could take the battle system, art style, progression system, or developmental generation of any RPG and apply it to another RPG, what title would you change and how would you change it? For example, having a Mass Effect game that uses the 16-bit developmental restrictions of the SNES, the pixel art style of FFVI, Tales of Destiny's AR-LMBS battle system, and the Zodiac progression system from FFXII. Also, if you could take an IP that has never been made into an RPG (or had tried in the past and utterly failed), what battle system, art style, progression system would you want to develop the game for and what console generation would you want to release it on?

So i just recently finished a game(trails in the sky the 3rd) where the main character and a few of the side characters have incredibly saddening and dark backstories. So my question is do you prefer characters with these kinds of stories, like Fei and Cloud and Kevin(who is in trails), or do you prefer more simpler, normal, and relatable characters like Frodo, Crono, and Vaan, who had inciting moments that started their journey?

I am so looking forward to this podcast! For the question: What are your expectations for Kingdom Hearts 3? What do you want to see in the game and what do you wish that they don't include?

Yassssss! Buns! I am stoked that she agreed to collaborate with you guys! Call me silly, but people seem to have the videogame questions down so I'll ask one about another thing that she is famous for, her on point anime hair. How much time a day does it take to prepare? Does she do it all up everyday? How does she get it styled considering how particular and unique it is unless you'd have been living in Japan when gyaru and gyaru-o culture was at it's height 2007-2012ish. Does she do it herself? Doesn't have to be discussed for long, all things considered, but thanks for possibly indulging me. :)

Love the fact that you're having Buns as a guest, she's fantastic. Final Fantasy X has had a deep impact on me and though I think there's a lot of great stuff about it (e.g. the way summons are integrated into the story or a fun yet strategic battle system), when I think back on it now I think what got to me the most was the philosophical ramifications of its story, especially with regard to Yuna. As a young teenager, it made me think about how as a society we shouldn't be willing to sacrifice any single individual "for the greater good" or how it's better to face a hard truth rather than hiding behind comfortable beliefs. Yuna's speech in Zanarkand, when she confronts Yunaleska and finally lets go of the lies that have helped her survive and cope with the world, still gives me chills every single time. Yuna -a non-character up to that point, somebody who drifts through life and is willing to die out of kindness- comes to life: she values her existence, she values her friends and, having finally accepted that life is about choices, she chooses to live. To me, art -including videogames- is at its best when it is political, when it makes a moral statement (whether you agree with it or not). Do you guys agree? What are some of the more "political" games you've played and what are some of the life lessons you've learned from them? Keep up the good work! Supporting you from Spain.

How did you get into Kingdom Hearts and why is it the greatest video game series of all time? Uh I mean...and what are the series pros and cons? What does the series mean to you?

You wake up one day to find yourself a top level game director at Square Enix. The year is 2022, the last installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake has just been released and no other AAA Final Fantasy game has been revealed to you or the public. The executives at Square call you into a meeting for the purpose of assigning you your next big project. Naturally, you think this is Final Fantasy XVI. However, in an unexpected twist, you are told that the team you will be leading is actually assigned to a project called "Final Fantasy I." "Wait," you ask, "Do you mean a remake of the original Final Fantasy, or a reboot of the franchise?" The higher ups just shrug and just say "Your game, your choice." What do you do? Do you make a reboot, a remake, or something else? Does it have a turned-based system like the originals, or an action-based system like XV and VII-Remake? Is it more medieval fantasy or science fiction? What themes will the game explore, and why? You try to coax some kind of direction from the higher ups, but they give you nothing but encouraging smiles. You are introduced to your team of 50 to 200 young programmers and artists, all of whom have grown up playing the Final Fantasy series. The executives give you one last pat on the shoulder, and you hear the traditional Prelude music begin to play as they leave you with your team, and the quest to create "Final Fantasy I." What do you do?

Which would you rather have in a game: A great cast of characters but a bad story, or a great story but a bad cast of characters? Examples of games which you think fit either bill and do it well are welcome.
