I feel the same way Omer

Jonas Kristiansen

I was so deeply affected by both of you

I remember watching this movie at two different points in my life, once as a teenager and again in my early 20s (I’ll be 33 next month). I recall thinking both times that it was a good film but it didn’t quite stick with me in the way that I hoped it would. Revisiting Jacob’s Ladder today however and… I still feel that way. A good, possibly great movie that doesn’t quite stick the landing for me. I feel that way for a couple reasons, but i won’t get into that because after watching/listening to this podcast it amazed me how much it impacted both of you. I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised considering religion plays a big part in story of your lives, which is something I haven’t been able to say about myself for a very long time now. The big takeaway for me after hearing both of your thoughts on this movie is that sometimes something hits you at the exact moment in your life when you needed it the most. It’s that moment when you engage with a piece of art and everything falls into place. It can change a worldview, it can put things into perspective in a way that you never quite understood before, hell it might even make you a better person. Who knows. But it’s that realization that makes everything worth while and a feeling that you never wanna let go and remember forever. That’s what I felt after going through this podcast. Just two guys who saw and felt something in a work of art where I couldn’t. I didn’t feel bad, however, because Jacob’s Ladder wasn’t for me, no… I felt glad because Jacob’s Ladder was for you.

Thank you both for you vulnerability and honesty.

I just have to let you guys know that this episode was very emotional for me. I also have a 3 year old boy, and I couldn't hold back the tears hearing the lyrics to the song and seeing Casen's reaction. I just can't imagine dealing with that loss, it's much scarier to me than death itself. Also, I share Mike's feelings about Psilocybin and I'm glad it has been beneficial to him. It's cool to find more in common with you guys besides just love for old jrpgs, haha. All the best to both of you <3

“And Newman is a character on Seinfeld” 🤣. Great episode guys. I saw Vanilla Sky when I was 15 and had a panic attack over the existentialism I felt because of it. I’ve always had a very neutral view on things happening “to me” as being neither positive or negative before I ever learned about any of those philosophies (maybe I’m just lucky). I just wanted to share a little here because Mike explained that so well and I have many people close to me that just can’t grasp that.

Great episode, I really appreciated the personal perspectives and stories you both brought to it. I could relate both to your experience Mike, and Casen's as a dad. Unbelievably good stuff guys.

He melted 50 pounds of Magitek Soldiers in just 8 hours 😝

Man this is some quite powerful stuff. Not only the words of the movie but the words in this podcast have specifically come to me at the perfect time in my life. I'm definitely going to live my life differently now.

I feel like Please Mr. Postman playing on the radio in the chopper might be why he envisions himself as a postal worker. I recognized the song because I'm a huge Beatles nerd and it was covered on their first album, it's just a straightforward and catchy early 60's lovey dovey girl group pop song. Also, on the first part of this I was high and posted a comment about how you guys would probably get a lot out of tripping, but deleted it because I thought it was kind of weird. But hearing you talk about your experiences with Psilocybin was super cool. Kubrick films on acid made me understand film on a different level, and experiencing ego death and deep mindfulness saved me from suffering and suicidal tendencies.
