Death To Big E! No Wait, How Did It Go Again?

Grimdark month has started and oh boy, will it be Grimdark. 😲

As usual, the majority of the Grimdark WIPs are not on Patreon anymore.  But community members can still access the latest WIPs as mentioned in previous posts.  Just to be thorough, community members will receive an email with the access information as well.

So as First Captain Raldaron once noted while picking Gendor Skraivok apart, Night Lords love their trash talk but so few of them actually have the skill to back it up.

Sevatar would prove to be the exception to that rule, being not just deadly but legitimately one of the top duelists among the Space Marines alongside Sigismund and Khârn. Notable examples of this is how easily he dealt with Alajos, Master of the Dark Angels 9th Order and dueling Sigismund to a standstill.

His actual name is Jago Sevatarion but nobody calls him that unless they are very brave or very foolish if you catch my drift. Although he does tolerate certain characters calling him Sev. The First Captain also goes by the moniker 'The Prince of Crows' which is fitting since his Primarch is sometimes referred to as 'The Dark King'.

As First Captain of the Night Lords and leader of the Atrementar (First Company Terminators), Sevatar is one of the very few Night Lords Konrad Curze actually likes (he thinks the majority of his sons are criminal scum that tainted the Legion and his lineage). Interestingly, Sevatar apparently committed some sort of crime that marked him for death at a time of Curze's choosing which is why his gauntlets have been painted red. Although what that crime was is unspecified and Sevatar's ultimate fate is kind of nebulous.

Sevatar is also a repressed psyker, a trait that can be harmful to anyone implanted with Night Lord geneseed. It does let Sevatar hear the thoughts of others and his abilities helps him in certain scenarios, especially during the Heresy.

Throughout his story arcs, it's shown that Sevatar is incredibly insightful, deadly and actually pretty funny with his witty exchanges with different characters. And of course, he is most famous for being the first character to say the line that would echo down the millenia "Death to the False Emperor!"

So yeah, Sevatar is pretty badass. He might actually be one of my favorite traitor Space Marines as his one liners always cracks me up. I'm fond of saying that the only thing sharper than Sevatar's chainglaive is his tongue. 😄 If you want to see how awesome Sevatar is, check out the short stories "Savage Weapons" and the "Prince of Crows" where he really makes his mark.

Last time I checked, he was in Dark Angels jail but hopefully we'll see more of him during the Scouring. More badass Sevatar moments and less Armless Failure please.

Anyways, from a visual standpoint Sevatar is distinguished by a set of scars that give his face a permanent sneering quality even when he's being serious. So I went with that description and hopefully Night Lords fans will like my version. The scarred version is not shown on patreon.

In terms of armor, Night Lords are terror troops and visually they're supposed to be the scariest looking Space Marines out there. The problem is I've never really found Night Lords 'scary looking' and their helmets are kind of a joke among certain circles of the community. So this month, I'm going to try design Night Lord proxies in a way that terrifies myself. Squishy humans are supposed to dread them after all and when Big E says 'Send in the 8th' during the Great Crusade, you know things were going to get wild. 😱

I'm also working on some different Night Lord helmets and wargear so community members can use the variations as different Night Lord units proxies. I created a special voxcaster that I'm sure Night Lords would use on their campaigns. Just plug in a new human battery and broadcast on all vox channels.

Next up is the AU (Lion Heresy) version of Mortarion. Now I know nothing about these alternative fan storylines and just going purely on the visuals from the concept art suggestion. For his side and back, I extrapolated based on the style I could see from the front. There have been a couple of fan requests like giving a helmetless version and removing all the iconography or numerals. I'll provide different options so community members can do as they see fit. But for now, here's how he looks based purely on the original suggestion.
