Anatomy Tutorial: Understanding & Drawing Arms

Hey everyone!

Following this series of tutorials on understanding and drawing anatomy, today I want to share a step-by-step process for drawing arms, starting with a simple front view and applying perspective. Let's dive in!

When drawing an arm, the muscular and bone structures are very similar between human females and males. What changes is the density of bone and muscle, but the composition in terms of shapes remains the same.

1. The first step consists of a mix of circles, rectangles, and triangles, each representing specific parts of the anatomy:

- Circle: Shoulder

- Rectangle: Upper arm, forearm, and hand

- Triangle: Elbow

What changes when perspective is applied is essentially the transformation from shape to form:

- Circle → Sphere

- Rectangle → Cuboid (or Rectangular Prism)

- Triangle → Pyramid (or Tetrahedron, if all faces are triangles)

2. Step two involves adding curved lines to define:

- The center of the shoulder

- The bicep surface

- The connection between the elbow and forearm

- The fingers

3. Step three involves adding small curved lines for the tricep and the lateral side of the forearm. This smooths the connection between the arm and forearm/bicep. Lastly, two lines shaped like an "M" suggest the top of the shoulder form and the connection between the forearm and hand.

4. The final step consists of refining the edges to give the muscles that round, realistic look. Try out this simple tutorial on drawing arms and share your results in our Discord group. I'll be giving 10 SP!

I hope you enjoy this type of content, your support makes it possible! If you have any suggestions, don’t hesitate to let me know."
