7 Ways Artists Are Boosting Visibility in 2025! (I do this too)

So I've been paying attention to what artists have been doing, and I've noticed how they reach greater audiences on IG. My approach is way simpler: I explore and share consistently over time, but I already have a platform I've built very early, and perhaps there are more effective ways to grow a following base for those who are starting today. In this article, I want to share some tips on how to be popular, considering what I've seen work lately. Subscribe to unlock this article, and let's dive in:

Hey everyone,

In 2025, Instagram's algorithm favors engagement and short-form video, making it key for artists to grow authentically. While my early strategy focused on learning through shared explorations, today's landscape demands Reels, carousels, and community ties. Here are some suggestions based on the cool things I've seen.

1. Short Reels for Dynamic Reach: Short clips of your process (like brushstrokes or color mixing) outperform just posts. One artist hit 40k followers in a year by posting daily technique demos, spiking comments and shares. Aim for 15-30 seconds to hook viewers fast. Even if the art is not finished, I've seen these videos making great numbers not only on IG, but on other social media platforms as well.

2. Use Carousels for Storytelling Depth: Turn single pieces into multi slide journeys, from sketches to finals, with inspiration notes. This really boosts impressions; test open-ended questions like "What does this feel to you?" to drive interaction. People really love to talk about themselves, so start by narrating your journey and ask them about theirs. I do this on a much smaller scale, with just question captions, but if you want greater results, try these.

3. Build a Visual Identity: My art direction is more about what I paint than how it looks as a whole. I'm not that picky in terms of how the whole gallery looks all together, but if you try this, it will allow your identity or style to look solid. Curate your grid like a gallery: consistent palettes, alternating art with behind the scenes.

4. Collaborations and Challenges: Back in my days, I used to connect with artists I thought were cool and ask to make a piece together, like just for fun; you can try that. Maybe not even painting, but joint Lives. Joining trending challenges with custom hashtags; it's low effort visibility without desperation. There are plenty of challenges out there; check for the coolest ones made by people with great audiences. These might share your art, and if they do not, at least you have fun doing something you like.

5. Engage with What You Love: No need to doom-scroll for hours; pick 30 min of your day to check the art of the people you follow. Comment if you feel like it; this might build reciprocity.

6. Mix Fan Art with Casual Ideas: Popular characters draw quick likes; this is an old trick, but try humor or relatability by making those characters do casual everyday life situations. Focus on "that's me" feeling to encourage engagement; this one is not easy, but in my experience, it is still working to this day.

7. Relaxed Sketches over High Quality Realism: The best for the end: this tip is for you not to over obsess with technical high quality detail. I mean, if that's your thing, go for it, but the key to keeping it simple is time, short time. Sketches and stylized realism (simplified volumes from references) often outshine overworked pieces, and if it's quick to get done, in most cases it will not burn you out. In 2025, authenticity trumps perfection; post what excites you.

We obsess over the numbers, but we really have no control over these algorithms, so we might enjoy the journey and take these tips as experiments. Some might work, some don't; keep it simple and tag me when you try. I'd like to celebrate with you!
