These guys are cutting edge in Psychedelic rock at the moment; definitely on the rise and their sound can be a bit like Tame Impala and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. They have described their style as an 'energetic mess', which probably explains some of the unusual chord choices you pointed out in the song. John, I can't remember who recommended this band to you, but they are on to something as these guys are blowing up.
