Season 3 theme music

Hey friends! Just wanted to update you on the music for season 3. We’re coming very close to locking down a main theme. I just received a version from one of my composers of what I think may finally be the winner. Once we nail it down, I’ll post a teaser here for you fine Patrons :)

Very excited about it! Getting the right music in place really gets me revved up to make the episodes. For me, as both a producer and as a role player, atmosphere is *everything*, and there’s no better way to transport my mind into the game world than the right music.

For my in-person games, I carefully select music to play in the background, and it really elevates the experience. In fact, there was a point when I had 2 separate sound systems going - one with general ambient music, and another with more immediate sound effects for whatever was going on at that moment. I would control both through an app on my phone, and it worked great. Of course, it was yet another element to juggle while GMing, but I’m a pretty solid multi-tasker, so I could handle it.

What about you? Do you use music in your sessions, either solo, with in-person groups, or in online games? Would love to get a discussion going here.

I normally put world of warcraft tavern music on spotify lol Or any random medieval music does the trick, theres a ton of music on spotify to be honest, I HAVE to play music in background, adds so much more :)

Thanks for the link to Michael's RPG essentials. It is great to play them when playing a round!

I tend to use very little music or sound effect, as it can distract some players, though I have been in groups where a GM has used it to great effect. As long as its not over powering the narrative I more than happy with some.

My current solo campaign is named after the epic music I downloaded to an mp3 from here https://youtu.be/HEf_xrgmuRI A theme tune helps to kick off a session in the right atmosphere. Music snaps me back into the right mindset away from the other life stuff. But for ambient sounds for campfires, busy taverns and evil temples I go to this guy https://michaelghelfi.bandcamp.com/ Love every moment when your session gets dramatic and the epic music kicks in! Your use of atmospheric sound effects prompted me to add some to my solo play :)

I completely agree! Music is -totally- important to make the ambiance complete for my games! I sometimes spend hours on soundtrack selection when setting up a new chapter for my players! Sadly, sound effects aren't something I can juggle as well, because I normally run a table for 8+ people, and need to really streamline my pacing because I've yet to find a reliable way to control them. You mentioned that you used an app for the sound effects! Would you care to share? I would love to explore the possibility of potentially being able to add sound effects to my games!

Good and exciting news for the music ! My best memories are with Ironsworn & Danheim ah ah.. I can’t do a session without ambient music, depending of the genre I play. I tend to not use sound effects because it puts a layer of complexity I don’t want to deal with (I’m already using a mix of Mythic, Mythic E-zines and Motif Character engine so it’s pretty intensive 😂).

Exciting stuff Trevor! II can't wait to hear it :) In my own life, I tend to only use music if there's a source for it in the fiction as well (a nearby bard or whatnot) - but I'm an oddball I think - I turn off music in video games too and I have trouble concentrating even on things like normal conversation if there's music I'm unfamiliar with playing somewhere. I love the idea of being able to layer sounds - like general ambience and then specific folies (sp?). What app do you use to control both sound systems? I'd really like to get my hands on some app-controlled lighting also.
