Morning Mist

Dale and Feargus are very well connected with their own emotions, the weather, the time of day, and nature. You might have to look carefully, but you can catch them gazing out into the countryside to soak it all in, and allowing themselves to feel small among a living and breathing world; the sight and scent of a misty morning, the silky brushes of wind, and even the buzzing sounds of the insects surrounding them.
In theme of this, I want the country land they live in to be almost another character itself, that in the story, the characters have an emotional interaction with. They're constantly aware of it, and enjoy slowing life down to appreciate it.
This painting in particular, I tried to capture that idea.
Dale and Feargus wake up early in the morning, with lots of chores ahead of them, but before that, they walk a distance to just prop up on a fence together and without a word, they just let it all in. Their heads are clear, they feel the cool morning air contrasting the body warmth against their sides, and the earth feels still as they watch the birds chirp and zoom about, feeling as calm and slow as the silver and gold mist that strolls through the dew-dappled grass.
It's a combining feeling of being exactly where you should be, with exactly who you should be with, and then feeling part of the grass and the sky.
