Yeah I can imagine it might have painted sharks in a negative light at the time!! Good on the author for taking action that’s actually so sweet 😭 sharks are beautiful creatures It was a very good monologue !! Very dark and devastating 😩 Wait so the scene of the shark and the cage after he gets out that’s actually real footage?? Did they use tje footage from somewhere else or did they just happen to catch it on camera? I need to rewatch the scene that’s crazy ahaha Their chemistry was so good I agree, the interactions wouldn’t have been as entertaining if not for their chemistry I would say

I've probably seen this movie at least 50 times. It's perfect. This is one of Spielberg's first movies (his first big one) and it invented the summer blockbuster. Summer blockbusters were not a thing before Jaws. The author of Jaws regretted writing the book because the book and the movie started a fear and misunderstanding of sharks that caused a lot of harm, with people killing sharks. He spent the last years of his life promoting the conservation of sharks. The jump scare with the head in the boat is probably the most famous jump scare ever. It gets everyone the first time. When Brody was saying "no whistles" he didn't want to start a panic (which is what happened) with people getting trampled trying to get out of the water. The story of the USS Indianapolis is 100% true. That is probably the greatest monologue in film history (my favorite at least, and a lot of others favorite as well). Robert Shaw should've won an oscar for playing Quint. Not sure if you noticed, but right after the Indianapolis speech when Brody is outside, there are a couple shooting stars in the sky. Those were real shooting stars that happened to be caught by the cameras. Spielberg has since put shooting stars in a lot of his films. Quint smashed the radio due to his pride. He didn't want help or to be rescued. Hooper was originally meant to die. But they happened to capture footage of a real great white stuck on top of an empty shark cage that they wanted to use in the movie, so they changed it so that Hooper escaped the cage and survived. Also Hooper was wearing his watch over the wetsuit because it's a dive watch. He needs to be able to see it. Even if they never found a shark at all this would still be a great movie. I would watch a movie or show of just Brody being chief on the island and handling situations. Plus the chemistry between the 3 actors when they're on the boat is amazing. Great performances all around. You should watch the making of Jaws sometime. I think it's on youtube. Probably one of the best movie documentaries. It's amazing they were able to even make the movie.

Negative

It looked so real imo so it can’t have been that bad lol 😭 but yeah def only seeing it a little bit made it much more frightening

they did build a robot shark for the movie, but it didn't function as well as they wanted which is why they hardly ever show the shark during the movie. most people think this made the movie better.
