In Baroque music (esp. French, but applicable to most Baroque music), there is the concept of "inegalite" Similar (though _not_ identical) to modern swung 8ths). Inegalite is partially asymmetric stress, but that also affects the rhythm. Flutists like me most easily accomplish inegalite with articulation. Instead of "tu tu tu tu...." you go "tu tu ru tu ru tu ru..." (The "ru" isn't an American-style R, but the articulated kind you find in Romance languages). The "ru" syllable is the emphasized one.
