Hey Chris, Thank you for your message! You are right, diabetes is a lot more complex than we let on in this. We had a conversation about this internally and we will take care to keep a closer eye on presumptions like this. We take great care to make sure our videos are correct and try not to oversimplify things to a degree it becomes incorrect (and potentially hurtful) but this one slipped through there. 2023-07-28 19:50:52 +0000 UTCGood video as usual, but please stop spreading the oversimplification that "poor diet causes diabetes" … Scientists don't even know what type 2 diabetes is (it's literally defined as "you have diabetes, but it's not one of the ones we know the cause of"), let alone what causes it. And it has a 5x stronger genetic risk factor than autoimmune type 1 diabetes (which we also don't know the cause of). Poor diet can increase risk for those already at risk for type 2, but does not CAUSE it. Poor diet also does not cause type 1 diabetes, or any of the other varieties (depending on how you count, there are least 8 distinct diseases classified together as diabetes mellitus).
