My current projects

Hey guys,

so perhaps you watched this short video I posted on youtube about not being all that creative recently and my willingness to work on more in-depth videos overall. I decided to do that actually and I have been focusing on some projects which, more or less, require some research, some script based content and I've actually been enjoying that so far, there's always something exciting about sitting in front of your keyboard and slowly getting to a point where you come up with stuff that satisfies you. I thought it'd be nice to share some behind the scenes projects preparations so you know what I'm working on.

1) Life is Strange: After All This Time? Video Essay
(there's another title I have been playing with which is "Life is Strange: Against All Odds" but I made a nice thumbnail that fits the current one haha)

Always. This is my most current project. It's about Life is Strange - I didn't actually have anything specific in mind while starting it, but it's turning out to be a video essay about the franchise, why we love it, how classic it became. I'm not entirely sure where it's gonna take me, but I'm enjoying working on it, going through some developers interviews and whatnot. It still might take me a while before I finish it, but I'm working on it quite regularly. Here's a little quote from my script:

"Dontnod faced publishers telling them to make it a male lead yet they refused to cave in. Square Enix however did not even question that once and allowed them to start the journey of Max Caulfied – 18-year-old aspiring photographer at Arcadia Bay’s prestigious Blackwell Academy.

Her adventure begins with going back to the city where she grew up in and reconnecting with her childhood best friend Chloe Price. She sees her again under unusual circumstances – while saving her from being killed by Nathan Prescott in one of Blackwell Academy's bathrooms by using the ability to rewind time she never knew she had.

"It was a bit of a risk," the game's co-director at Paris-based studio Dontnod Entertainment, Michel Koch says — and fronting the money for that risk was Square Enix, the huge publisher behind today's Tomb Raider, Hitman, Final Fantasy and Deus Ex franchises. "It was something different, and we never really thought about audience or marketing when making it. We were not sure that it would work commercially. We knew we'd find some public, of course, but not a big appeal. So we're really happy to have that. A big community has grown up around the game."

Dontnod not only decided to portray a young female lead that could be considered bisexual, gay or straight depending on your choice; they also did not shy away from topics such as depression, suicide, grief, cyberbullying, drug addiction, terminal illness or even euthanasia, making Life is Strange one of a kind, relatable game – afterall most of us struggle in one way or another and the possibility of going back in time seemed tempting enough for the players to fully immerse in this world."

2) Untitled Witcher Video Essay

More or less I have been working on it for a year now except I stopped doing it whilst finishing the books, I figured I'd love to have more knowledge about the Witcher universe before I wrap this one up. It's mostly focusing on how gray-ish the world of Witcher is, how it's not black and white, its characters always somewhere in the middle, it's about morality most of all. I'd say project is 80% done, I just wanna go through morality quotes I marked in the books and maybe come up with a nice conclussion.

3) The Last of Us: Anti-Messiah Video Essay

I haven't started working on this one yet. It's an idea I had recently, making a video about how The Last of Us goes in a different direction than many popculture pieces and biblical stories about the one who's supposed to save others - like the New Testament, Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter (lol), Lord of the Rings and some others. I'm not sure where this project takes me though.

4) Mark Jefferson: A Psychopath

This is the shortest video on my list, again, haven't started working on it, I've been meaning to make it for a while now - I wanna describe how in my opinion Mark Jefferson is and was an actual psychopath. Thoughts? haha

These are the projects that were on my mind lately, I hope you find them interesting. Other than that December will be of course a Witcher month as new tv-show episodes are coming so I'll be recording reactions. If you have any thoughts about any of these projects, directions you think I could take I'm open to suggestions!

I hope you're all well, take care and stay safe,

Ola
