Castlevania - Charlotte Aulin Redraw / Sketch (HighRes + Timelapse)

A redraw (kind of) of an older illustration.
Timelapse comes in two parts for this one. I tried to experiment a bit with a new program, Krita; it wasn't bad, I tried a few very fun impasto brushes, but they alone could not convince me to switch programs.
Rendering this one was a bit of a mess, but it got better once I switched back to Clip Studio Paint.

Thank you very much! I am not big into studies to be honest, and I am not sure if spending a lot of time looking at pretty pictures counts as studying. Keeping reference folders of art I admire helps me a lot with inspiration, and since most of the stuff I find appealing to look at are traditional or faux-trad digital, my style sort of gravitates towards that. Observe, memorize, apply. Consume the type of art you want to make.

I would say Krita and Clip Studio Paint are both decent drawing programs (for reference, I use a very early version of CSP, 1.13 or something). I am only interested in having a few good textured brushes and the ability to record timelapses, which both programs offer, although CSP has a much bigger library of materials to choose from, plus compatibility with PS brushes for extra variety. I read some people complain about Krita's interface and shortcuts, but I had zero trouble adjusting it to my preference. Some people also complained about Krita's Liquify option being a bit obscure, and horribly laggy. While this is true, the Distortion Brush (tool similar to Liquify) does a decent enough job, in my opinion. Both programs are said to have issues with brushes lagging, but I didn't experience anything notable myself. CSP can be a little bit frustrating with its slow-ish saves, causing me to pause for a good few seconds in the middle of my workflow. I think Krita stuttered once or twice, but I didn't use it for long enough to know if it gets worse or not. CSP is a paid license and subscription program, releasing new versions rather frequently, that offer a ton of features that I am not particularly interested in. 3D materials and the like is not something I see myself using, nor am I interested in animation and manga creation. Krita, unlike CSP, is free. If you are already familiar with Krita, and you are primarily interested in painting, I don't think you will gain much from switching to CSP. The CSP Asset Store brushes catalogue is the only advantage I can think of, but other than that, the programs feel sort of similar.

What did you study to get such an amazing painterly vibe to your art?? I'm curious cause I wanna try it out myself!

I love Krita! I always thought about using Clip Studio tho, but never tried it... How does it feel like to paint in it? Is it more intuitive? (Sorry if I'm not being clear)
