SHHG! Episode 16: I Know (?)

Catching Fire chapters 7-9

We start this week with another music game, with another unexpected twist! Plus, an update on all things strings and Neopets. Then we've got three exciting chapters to cover as the rebellion in District 12 starts heating up--or maybe doesn't, depending on who last spoke to Katniss. We chat about some of the great character development, the slightly silly worldbuilding, and try to figure out just where all this is going... and if that's another Hunger Games!

Isn't there a Regina Spektor song on that album? She is very much not Christian, I believe she is Jewish.

There were certainly things in this episode to which I can only respond: (laughs)

I had the Pokemon 2000 album like that! My friend had the one for the original Pokemon movie. Fortunately neither one of us were trying to get the actual score, although as an early fan of TCM movie musicals I remember being annoyed not all the songs were on certain albums. Maybe the target demo with the "inspired by" albums are kids/teens? I remember assuming they must have been cut songs or "written for the credits."

Were there also tracks titled Witch and Wardrobe

Another thing I'll say: Gale's flightiness seems reflective of the series' liberal attitudes about politics and its general suspicion towards anyone who is a conscious political actor. I think the series is like 80% of the way to having its heart in the right place, but there are some really noticeable limitations in Susanne Collins' worldview.

came to the comments section just to make astonished silent eye contact with everyone from across the podcast πŸ‘€

teenage me feels so vindicated by xeecee picking up on the madge/katniss homoeroticism, their ship name back in the day was madniss....much to think about

ghostsofspring

when you were talking about other responses to "i love you" all i could think of is the otherside picnic novels, where the main character just keeps responding to her love interest saying that with things like "yeah, yeah, let's keep going" and "thank you" and so on until the rest of the cast has to ask if she knows she's gay or not

Cromalin

Romulus Thread is a "c list death eater"-ass name

spectre-ship

I simply could not believe some of this one lmao

Stanley Tucci is Caesar on the card.

Joshua Smith

Anyone in this thread remember the eponymous track β€œLion” from Music Inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe which was composed entirely of Christian artists. That bad boy saw so much traction in the Disney AMV scene (real heads know…)

The "music inspired by the film" CDs has an intended audience: your aunt trying to find you a christmas present who vaguely remember you said you liked that film

I am starting to get really fed up with the lack of Prim being a real character. She has had maybe two lines in this whole book despite Katniss using her to justify everything from fleeing to the revolution. It just makes me want Prim to actually have a personality and opinions about what Katniss should do instead of Katniss always trying to assume her best interest all the time. It is probably the weakest point for the book for me right now (im reading along and i literally have no memory of the rest of CF)

Julie Lerche

The modified songs remind me of a very special Cold Play album featuring Dancing Lady

We, as an audience, must band together and record our own podcast episode, ranking all the Shriekcast Hunger Games episodes by how much they made us scream at the screen

It's da weekend baby!
