Remember how we had somehow remained completely unaware of the werewolves in the first Hunger Games book? Somehow, by some beautiful miracle, we remained equally, blissfully unaware of another animal threat in this series. Not much happens in these action-packed chapters outside, but boy does a lot happen. There are chapters that feel like novels, as they say...
Anyway, aside from the fight scene involving a bunch of mutant monkeys, we discuss the fun character dynamics between Katniss, Finnick, and Peeta (I guess he's still alive), this book's inventive twists on the survival story trappings from the first novel, and okay I'm exaggerating we mostly talk about the monkey fight. And that's not all--we also discuss the new James Patterson novel!

2024-02-09 11:08:37 +0000 UTCSo I work with monkeys, like this actual second sitting on break at work right now looking at a group of orange monkeys, and the mutts described are probably supposed to be based on on baboons, which can sometimes be orange in color, and baboons are def on my do not fuck with list, it would not be pretty but I could win in a 1v1 with a rhesus, baboon/chimp/etc? Nope! People in the monkey business know the chimp people tend to be missing fingers. Personally i think she should have done based on howlers instead since they are native to Latin America, but I guess the capital might still have zoos or something to get some old world monkeys from. And yes, you can generally walk into a group of monkeys and not get immediately shredded, the alpha will probably keep an eye on you or take some swipes, but we still carry big nets and don't go in alone to make sure we don't get jumped, they don't need to be mutts to be assholes

2024-02-02 20:52:13 +0000 UTCI need to add this commentary in the moment I hear about this before I listen to the rest of the episode because otherwise I might forget it, but I recently watched all of Elementary and Sherlock Holmes using a small ball to check the incline of a floor is something that happens in The Pilot of that show, just straight up lifted for this scene. Except instead of a weird metal ball that he's just carrying around for no reason it's a marble he picked up in a murder victim's home and he's using it to help solve that murder instead of just being a pedant about an apartment he's about to buy. Truly James Paterson is a genious
