Bonus #257 - K-Pop Artists Have No Labor Rights (Extra Dose)

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/zBcQ9J4S24E

Hey everyone, Merry Christmas-Eve, Happy Almost-a-day-or-two-off-work for those who don't celebrate, and of course, it's Bonus Dose Day! Before we get to that though, just a note that I've answered most, if not all, of the Q&A questions so far, and you're welcome to keep adding to it. You'll find it here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/q-winter-2024-118323179

Anyway, on to this week's Bonus Dose, in which I... defend... K-Pop artists? Certainly a departure from my usual mockery. But it's an interesting look at how, basically, the music industry is awful everywhere, maybe even moreso over there. Enjoy!

A lot of people think that places like South Korea and Japan are "futuristic", but in many ways, they're very much living in the past. Buckley looks at a story in which a K-Pop group named "NewJeans" was told they didn't really have any employment rights because they aren't considered employees... of the company that has them under contract and can tell them when to perform, and even who they can and can't be in relationships with. But, there's a fun twist ending!

Same here! I know American celebrity culture isn't all sunshine and rainbows, but at least our celebrities have SOME control over their lives!

or how they feel obligated and usually are obligated to apologize for such things. only to have that apology ridiculed and be shamed for it at the end of it all.

I always found asian idol culture to be immensely disgusting. Especially the "no dating" bit that a lot of vtumors have to abide by because their fans are unable to separate a screen from reality.
