EARLY ACCESS: Of Course Honey is a Scam!

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/LXZxW912yZg

Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day, and before we get to this week's video, just a reminder that NEXT Saturday is "Buckley vs Billboard's Top 10 Songs of 2024", so... get hyped I guess! In the meantime, I spend this weekend talking about "the biggest scam in YouTube history". Is it? Weeeelllll... let me know your thoughts either here or in the YouTube comments. Enjoy!

Buckley looks at the "biggest scam in YouTube history", the allegations from people like MegaLag, Legal Eagle, and Moist Cr1tikal (among many others) that Honey, the browser extension that's supposed to help you get good deals when you shop, is actually stealing the commissions from YouTubers. Gasp, a company that offers a free service and spends millions of dollars advertising that free service, with no clear revenue stream, may have been doing something shady to earn money? WHODATHUNKIT?! Plus: a very cynical Buckley wonders if you actually care, since this doesn't harm you, the viewer.

I'm a beekeeping and was ready to be mad with you about cheap honey being cut with sugar and they people come yell at me about why I sell my honey for so much. Oh well, maybe next time.

Larry is my favourite character from your videos, I'm glad he's doing fine

Michał Michalski

Great episode, and great reference!

Your license plate says scammin...

The Australian fast fashion brand "Princess Polly" made a podcast on Spotify confirming that they have worked with Honey. They highlight the importance of eCommerce, and that Princess Polly, by promoting Honey, allows them to choose coupon codes at their own discretion, and can override cheaper coupon codes. It's business, sleazy business as I do believe that the YouTuber who signed to promote Honey is entitled to their commission. That's Honey's business model available on the Internet for people to see.

Am I meant to feel sorry for the content creators? 90% of the time, it’s just content farming, nothing of substance, filled with ads/sponsored content so that they can make money from the internet. Either build a following and make money from Patreon or go and get a real job. I don’t feel sorry for these people at all.

It's funny the "you'll never win" cause I just won 1400 gambling yesterday 😂 1st time ever! And it was from a friend's referral so I paid nothing! But I'll never play again cause I'm not getting stuck in that shit

I've got iDubbbz's wife by 3rd round divorce.

Hmm, maybe... according to the Internet he's 5'6", which means he's 5'5" (everyone lies) so maybe we could fight. Well, call iDubbbz, we got Creator Clash 3's co-main event (the main event will obviously be iDubbbz vs his wife).

Adam Buckley

Oh I absolutely agree they SHOULDN'T get 3rd parties skimming off them. I think as a very cynical person I'm just surprised anyone cares. People use ad blockers, browser extensions to skip the Sponsored Ads or skip them manually while watching videos, it just kinda surprised me that people care. I think also some of these creators know that, which is why they've tried to make it seem like "YOU, the audience, is also being ripped off" (like with the "you're not getting the best deal" part) to gain sympathy, when really... if you're getting ANY discount, or even if you're not, you still aren't losing anything as a customer.

Adam Buckley

My dream influencer boxing match would be you vs. Charlie. You guys both weight around 90 pounds right?

Niko M.

I have been following Devin (LegalEagle) for a few years now. I do think that people who make money off YouTube shouldn't get 3rd parties skimming off them nonconsentually. I had Honey for a hot minute and it quickly got on my nerves. I thought they had gone under years ago. Imagine my surprise.
