Bonus #290 - Why Celebs Need PR (Joey Swoll) (Extra Dose)

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/eBO5Qg_JwCw

Hey everyone, it's Bonus Dose Day, and we're 10 Bonuses away from #300! I guess I should start thinking about what that should be... IN THE MEANTIME, here's #290, a video that... if you don't know who Joey Swoll is or hadn't heard about this "drama", don't worry, that's not really the point of the video. It's simply a great example of why the DIY nature of "Internet Celebrities" often results in people saying or doing something dumb, and then saying or doing something even DUMBER to try and fix the situation, only making it worse for themselves. Enjoy!

Internet personality Joey Swoll, the man who reposts gym TikToks of insufferable human beings who think they should be the center of attention at all times, shows us why "celebrities" of all levels should PROBABLY still have PR staff, as he turns a molehill into a mountain. A simple Hulk Hogan tribute becomes a disaster for his "brand", and his own attempts to fix it just dug a deeper hole. Remember when celebrities just DIDN'T talk directly to their fanbase? Maybe they should go back to that...

This is why I appreciate Cillian Murphy; he's rarely (if ever) on social media unless he's promoting a movie he's starring in, and then after that, he goes back to his quiet life with his family and friends. And that's fine. We need to normalize the fact that not every celeb is obligated to promote themselves and showcase their views to a bunch of sad sacks with too much time on their hands.

also don't engage with 14 year olds trying to cling onto causes they know nothing about. I could re-iterate why I'm subbed to Buckley's Patreon (and no one else's) but that's not the point.

2:55 - on the money. The modern idea of celebritism (of course) is that the celebrity must portray themselves as 'accessible' and 'approachable' at all times. I'm parasocial (and enough of a dickrider) to understand this. Joey should've just shut his mouth and shut up. This is coming from possibly one of the biggest fans of a meme rapper - who coincidence enough, from your country, (bbno$) and I know too damn well the caliber of fans he attracts. Point is, TL;DR: if you're a public figure - get actual PR if your career warrants it. And don't engage with idiots!
