Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day! Can you believe we're actually less than 4 months to the Ten Worst Songs of 2025? WELL, according to the analysts (heh heh... "anal-ysts") it might just be The Ten Worst Songs of 2024 redux! Find out what I'm talking about by watching the video! (and don't worry, I have a message of hope at the end for those of you who look forward to the annual list).
We've crossed the 2/3rds mark of 2025, and it's shaping up to have the FEWEST new Top 10 hit songs of any year ever. People are just listening to last year's music, OR older music, with artists like Teddy Swims and Shaboozey STILL in the Top 10, and the "song of the summer" is going to be an Alex Warren (who?) song from February. Buckley says "I told you so!" again as he digs up an article he wrote 9 years ago about this exact trend, and compares the number of NEW hits in 2025 to decades past. Oops, turns out, older generations were even worse than Millennials and Gen Z when it came to needing a constant stream of new entertainment to occupy them! Also... a preview of what could appear on The Ten Worst Songs of 2025?!
it could be Alpha driving some of this. Today, my 3 year old insisted we play Rainbow by Sia 8 times in a row. Last month she was obsessed with Nothing Ever After by Illenium/Motionless in White and I heard it hundreds of times. These songs aren't new. I play a random spread and for reasons unknown the kids are drawn to certain songs. For example, they really like both JLo and Rammstein. And once they like a track, I do indulge them and let them replay it to the heart's content. I think it's kind of like how Baby Shark is number 1 on YouTube. I can't imagine what it will be like when they're tweens, so I suspect it's 11-12 year olds listening to shaboozey nonstop.

I blame the internet. There’s too many options and streaming counts. So everyone listens to different stuff. The only artists that can do very well are the ones that are very established and loved by large fan bases (Taylor swift , Bruno mars, lady Gaga), or ones who were backed by an already famous artistor a tv show (Morgan Wallen Sabrina Carpenter Benson Boone etc). I don’t think there will be many Chappell Roan like artists that break in with unique sound. In order to break out now in artist has to be extremely boring and universally likable. Cue Alex, Warren, Zach, Brian, etc.. that’s why country made a comeback because it’s the safe kind of music. The corporations can play in their stores and not offend the church grandmas. More people will play it at get-togethers and if they hear it in the store, they might like it because it’s bland and universally likable. Like how nobody can unite on political issues nobody can unite on music that’s not bland or an established artist that’s been out over for 10 years
