Buckley looks at the controversies and comedy of the 2024 Olympics. While the perpetually angry complained about Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer (cue the South Park meme!) and the "sacrilegious" opening ceremonies, everyone else enjoyed the many memetic moments, including bad breakdancing from a woman named Raygun, A Turkish shooter winning with a hand in his pocket, an Italian gymnast sponsored by... cheese... a pole vaulter whose "pole" was too big, the "anti-sex beds" ruining world records, and America sending the most torched Torch Bearer of all time in Snoop Dogg.

Personally I think you’re giving too much credit to Americans when asking if they forgot about Charlie Hebdo because that means they would’ve had to actually further research something than a clickbait headline. Sadly, not a lot of people really looked into it any further than that dead kid that washed up on the beach.

I get the jokes but to keep piling on her despite her and the Olympics knowing damn well that Ballroom Dancing was meant to be in the Olympics - not breakdancing - so we relied on someone who could represent us best, which even she knew wasn't her.. and our *best* was Raygun? That's not our fault. But calling her "unAustralian" and mocking her is. It's not you specifically (obviously) but its like beating a dead horse at this point. E: I'd go full "Leave Britney Alone" for this girl because I don't like how people were so harsh towards her. TL:DR: No one will care after the Olympics anyways.

2024-08-16 17:18:42 +0000 UTCThat was the part I guess I didn't quite understand, when they said she was sponsored by cheese, I was like "well surely it's someone who MAKES cheese", but I guess like... here in Canada we do have the Dairy Farmers collective (I forget their official name) and like, "Milk", like those old "Got Milk" ads, right? That wasn't a particular Milk brand as far as I know, it was just MILK. So, yeah I suppose that makes it funnier.
