EARLY ACCESS: Chappell Roan Hates Her Fans

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/-7ZYfjjt-ew

Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day, and this week's video is yet another in the series of "Buckley explains these new celebrities to you in 10 minutes so you don't feel like you live under a rock any more". I'm just happy to provide a public service. Enjoy!

Buckley, your Elder Millennial guide to everything your kids are talking about but you always feel out of the loop on, brings you up to speed on Chappell Roan, the newest pop sensation. Chappell recently found out the hard way that when you amass a following of 40 million fans, a LOT of them might be a little weird? Chappell's decided she's not gonna take it, as she calls out people who bother her and her family in public. BUT, is she forgetting that celebrities do have SOME obligations... like showing up for concerts?

Thank you for that description of her music. I work in the arts, and backstage all I hear is people freaking out over her bland music and styling that's been done before by hundreds of punk and rock artists.... not to mention even more recently Gaga and Madonna. I'm not saying it's bad, it's more pleasant to hear than a relentless trap high hat when I'm trapped in an uber, but Pink Pony Club with that over used chord progression in the chorus might be the most overrated song of the decade.

There is a documentary about a local band where one of the fans bragged about visiting the grave of the lead singer’s father more often than the lead singer does.

To be honest I didn't even know what she looked like, I took the advice from someone to look more into her lesser known work and really liked it. But yeah I think she has a SIA thing going

Hoofy AF

I really don't get her, if you're a fan maybe you can tell me, is the fact that she dresses like a ghost while singing the poppiest songs ever, is it meant to be a level of irony? I told someone on Twitter "she makes Cheerleader music for Spooky Girls"

Yeah, that does seem really funny. The only guy we normally throw a party for that's not gonna be there is Jesus. But a lot of these people (oh god, especially K-Pop fans) worship these people just like Christians do the J-man, so... Maybe that's where we're at as a society.

Adam Buckley

I've actually never seen that one, but I'm more referring to his 80s teen movies... Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, the Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller... they don't do anything for me, and I don't get the cult following they have among people my age or a little older (younger Gen X). I love National Lampoon's Vacation and Christmas Vacation, which he wrote, but I have zero nostalgia for Home Alone, Curly Sue, or Beethoven.

Adam Buckley

This video about weirdo fan behavior reminded me of a family member who threw a party with other fans celebrating one of those K-pop stars (not sure if he was from BTS? but probably) who was done with his mandatory military service. When I saw it on social media, my first reaction was "Doesn't she know how weird this is? How would she feel if she was famous and a random person threw a party for her in the same way?"

I certainly think that part of being a celebrity does unfortunately mean giving certain freedoms up for the price of being rich. You just can't go to the grocery store and expect NO one will approach you. I appreciate the idea of what she's doing, telling people to relax and be normal, but... You're right that it probably won't ever happen.

Adam Buckley

"ADmin" is fine but that suggests the word is said "ADministration" and not "adMINistration", which... I don't know, maybe? I'm Canadian, I don't have a lot of room to talk about pronunciation!

Adam Buckley

So you hate all John Hugh's films? Even Planes Trains and Automobiles?

There’s a limit for sure but it’s 2024 it’s not a new thing. You’re famous people will approach you and ask for a picture and/or autograph. Physical touch should be asked for and the fans should accept a no from that celebrity. I met Tim Burton at a meet and greet. We weren’t allowed to take a picture with him only of him, we couldn’t hug or shake hands, etc. One fan got her tattoo signed and that was probably it. Just be respectful because to a point no they don’t owe you anything. If they want to be known as good natured then yeah throw the fans a pic or two don’t be a dick lol.

Chantal

Huh. You say "adMIN"? I've always said “ADmin". Sidenote, it's a good running gag you got of the typical Dose of Buckley viewer. Accurate, I'm sure.

Pink Pony Club is Top Notch Grade A %100 beautiful
