Hey everyone, it's Bonus Dose Day, and today I've got kind of a fitting topic as we enter Spooooky Season, as AI companies look to raise the dead. Enjoy this follow-up of sorts to a recent Scumbags of the Internet, as companies weren't content with exploiting Stan Lee when he was alive... now they're doing it in death!
What happens when your cash cow dies? Just make an AI version! At the most recent Los Angeles Comic Con, a company dragged out an AI model of comic book legend Stan Lee that people could pay money to get selfies with and ask questions at. Buckley explores the idea that, maybe, it's unhealthy to create computer simulations of the dead, but that we're already on the path to future generations being completely unable to let go.

He criticizes movie studios (mostly Disney) for participating in digital necromancy and the refusal/denial of death for our entertainment/a cheap thrill. He also has some videos criticizing AI. Overall this direction we are heading towards is scary and should set off some alarms. The average person loves flashy, gimmicky schlop and generative ai can feed them all of it forever. We are very close to a dystopian future where the dead can’t rest, instantaneous gratification prevails over everything, and the homogeny of ai will be seen in every sector of our life, all while these corporations profit big bucks off our demise.
