EARLY ACCESS: Buckley vs The 250 Greatest Songs of This Century
Added 2025-11-07 17:00:06 +0000 UTC
Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day, and I promise, everything will be back to normal next week, but for now I've had to upload this video to Patreon as well (see last week's video for all of the explanation) and the regular YouTube link will work starting Saturday at 10am ET if you'd prefer to wait.
Anyway, before I left for vacation I decided to make some extra work for myself, including this somewhat extended length video where I looked at Rolling Stone's Top 250 Songs of the Century list and broke down the Top 10, as well as a bunch of other numbers throughout the list. Enjoy!
We are 25 years into the 21st Century (we're AAAKKKKSSHUALLY only 24 years in) and music rags can't wait to start ranking everything that's come out since we all survived Y2K! Rolling Stone created a list of the 250 Best Songs of this Century so far, and your ol' pal Buckley dives in to bring you the highlights, the lowlights, and to make fun of Rolling Stone for breaking their own rules. A brief look around the Top 250, and a deeper dive of the Top 10.
For some reason, the slide you had at 16:10 with the crappy DJ using Virtual DJ had me in stitches. Of course cheap DJ would use that and think they’re an expert

Can't say I remember most of these, but then again, places outside North America do exist.

Okay only thing I felt compelled to comment on: Alright IS definitely better than Humble (stated as a hardcore Kendrick fan), and I think TPAB had to hold the highest representation on this list. I mean the album is probably his best

"Roll my eyes so far back in my head I can see the aneurism I'm having" had me dying. I'm keeping that one.

Lot of braindead choices on this list, but that Dua Lipa and Rihanna placement makes it feel like they just randomly generated this.

I listened to the last 3 minutes of the version on my hard drive and didn't find any skips, so I'm guessing it might have been a processing error on Patreon. When the video goes up on YouTube later this morning, let me know if you notice the same issue

As someone from Detroit, I'm more upset White Stripes aren't higher 😤.
I am an indie head all day. I love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs but fucking *MAPS* at number two? get the fuck out.

Buckley's best take is that Radiohead sucks. I also will never understand why people love them
I recommend playing Beyond Good and Evil(2003)? A bit dated control-wise, but really fun little action rpg. 8.5/10 so far.

Rolling Stone has always been an absolute joke of a publisher - even in the 70s and 80s they used rage bait and shitty takes to get people to buy their shit

There’s some weird glitch at the end where your voice skips, but overall I’m laughing so fucking hard at this list

No Flex Zone is horrible why not Black Beatles and Throw Sum Mo. Throw Sum Mo teaches us to throw money at women then Young Thug calls ailiens.

I went through the list and I only recognize about 32% of the songs (I only counted those that I heard and can at least hum the tune of, and not just a title). I don't follow artist rabbit holes by digging deep into their repertoire if I like one song, though I might check a few random ones. I like living under my rock not listening to most of new stuff. Mostly, I'll listen to an international radio station where you can hear multiple genres, from multiple eras, and in several languages, and occasionally spot a banger.

I like Radiohead but putting Idioteque as their best song is such an awful take. Makes me wonder exactly how much effort they put into making these lists controversial.
