Interesting to hear this. Animism is becoming more prevalent now in esoteric world thankfully some practitioners are moving away from the psychology model. In the rest of the world of course animism never left. Buddhist countries are replete with animist practise. Even the strict Theravada Buddhism countries have strong animist practise . Ancestors and spirits are acknowledged and propitiated invoked and worked with . The Naga's are a perfect example in this but also ancestral ghosts and other spirits of the land hold a very important place in the practise. Having lived in such countries and being involved in this I have seen it first hand among monks, lay people and the average citizen .
