Principal Charming - round up!
Added 2025-01-31 09:00:01 +0000 UTCOne of the fun things about this season is seeing how comfortable the writers are quickly becoming exploring stories outside the main titular family. We had a Burns story in "Two Cars In Every Garage and Three Eyes On Every Fish", with only a small Homer/Marge conflict to tie back to the main characters. And with this episode, there isn't even a b-plot related to the Simpson five. We're offered a bit more depth into Patty and Selma's characters, where prior to this point they'd just been mean obstacles for Homer. Obviously doing stories about various other Springfieldians will be VITAL in ensuring the show's lifespan, and we're seeing the earliest attempts at it here.
Perhaps more importantly we're given two - count 'em, TWO - of the all time great Springfieldians here, Hans and Willie. These two would probably be in the first twenty characters named by an average fan, and they are instantly recognisable the world over. I should give MVP to my fellow countryman, but Mole-Man has a special place in my heart, and I hope to return to his escapades soon.

We only encountered 9 new characters this time! We'll make up for it elsewhere. We've met 412 in total. Next up: Homer has a half-brother?!??! What a twist!
