Maybe I'm wrong
Added 2025-05-20 15:17:25 +0000 UTC... but I think this is what Microsoft is trying to do.

You remove the biggest incentive for console manufacturers to be in the business of making consoles. Hardware margins are super slim. What incentive would Sony have to stay in the console business? And suddenly this consolidates a lot of the video game industry with one of the largest tech companies in the world, who also happens to aid the US government in war. And that mega sucks. It’s an illusion of choice.

2025-05-21 14:17:19 +0000 UTCI don't get the negativity around the discourse, this all seems like a good thing for consumers. More choice, less hidden fees.

2025-05-21 06:01:56 +0000 UTCThe other reason they want to open up is AI. The more they can train copilot on the better. And remember, most of these larger companies use GitHub, which is owned by MS.

2025-05-20 21:56:52 +0000 UTCIt's all good news...if we can play anywhere and do anything independently of h/w...its definitely the future

2025-05-20 20:54:31 +0000 UTCI’m still attempting recovery from “This is an Xbox” cringe…

2025-05-20 20:08:59 +0000 UTCI've been saying this ever since regulators started making rulings on opening up mobile storefronts. Microsoft will seem like the good guy by allowing Steam/Epic (or just straight up offering a "boot in Windows Mode" option on the next Xbox) while Nintendo and Playstation drag their feet. It'll make the next $800 Xbox go from being a very expensive console to a fairly affordable gaming PC, which is where I see them making gains in the long run

2025-05-20 18:58:04 +0000 UTCThis could happen and it’s super scary. It could spell the end for consoles as we know them and give Microsoft a larger monopoly in this industry. A military contractor owning videos games mega sucks!

2025-05-20 16:09:27 +0000 UTCLove these videos Jeff, well said. On a completely unrelated note I was wondering if you guys have any way to contact Geoff Keighly and try to get GB to host a preshow for the Game Awards like you did last year. I believe if done right it could be a big boon for you guys to secure your independence. If he loves gaming as a whole half as much as he always says he should definitely mention independent games media at the show this year and have you guys on and promote the website. Certainly worth a try if it's not something you were already thinking about.

2025-05-20 15:56:48 +0000 UTCMaking the next Xbox into what is essentially a very sleek Windows gaming PC, is about the only possible way they could get me to buy it. I have zero interest in another traditional Xbox console.

2025-05-20 15:56:26 +0000 UTCThe problem is that I don't trust Microsoft. With the BDS boycott on them and firing their workforce to replace it with ai leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I want nothing to do with them.

2025-05-20 15:51:49 +0000 UTCEven if they can only get a store onto iOS I think they'd prefer that to having a store on Xbox and that's it.

2025-05-20 15:34:57 +0000 UTCGreat video! I think this might be the strategy they're going for. Also has there been no new episodes of game mess jeopardy? or have I missed the Playlist?

2025-05-20 15:34:19 +0000 UTCSo the Xbox showcase is also a PS/Nintendo showcase…when will Nintendo and PlayStation hold their own showcase?

2025-05-20 15:32:51 +0000 UTCRight now, nothing is going to change because too much is happening at Giant Bomb. But the more I talk with Mike, the more we realize that we want to keep Game Mess going as it is. But I have some ideas to do cool stuff with it. That would involve paying some friends to do fun things that I think everyone will like. I'll have more on that soon.
