[Alternate Text: A header image of a forested road after a rain shower. The asphalt still glistens with water and the trees along the road seem darker, possibly saturated. There's a mysteriously gloomy quality to it. The title 'Birthday Blues' is in a jaunty font that could be found in a birthday card.]
This is a split POV writing between your Returning Visitor and J. Corvin. Though each could be read standalone, there are references/links within each one. This writing features J's POV.
Part of it is set when you were living in Fernweh, the rest is during your absence from town.
You should've been here by now.

2025-04-22 12:44:08 +0000 UTCJ needs (and deserves) all of the hugs, honestly. Dw, I got you! ππ There are at least two chances for a hug at the Corvin family dinner, but one is very clear that you can pick if you're friends with J after you see something they kept safe for you. (It's emotional!) There will be other instances to express platonic affection alongside romantic as we go. π (Some of them could use the tenderness with what's to come.)

2025-04-18 21:53:48 +0000 UTCI'm so happy that you enjoyed this writing, Jas! π₯° I hope you had a wonderful birthday. π I love what you said about J never being able to close that chapter in their life; it rings true. The Returning Visitor created a special place in J's heart that still remains despite the time/distance. Mal and J interactions tend to have an underlying tension (but also sometimes an interesting respect that we'll be getting into) that differs from the others; I'm excited for them to have more moments throughout the series. Thank you for your kind words! ππ

2025-04-18 21:43:54 +0000 UTCJust coming in how much I appreciate this, especially since my birthday was yesterday. The perfect gift β€οΈ So much symbolism in this one, and oh the angst. Poor James spent his whole life wondering about the returning visitor, not knowing why they never answered, but he could never close this chapter for himπ And itβs so interesting to see him interact with Mal. Thank you π
