You free your fingers from Ruby's hair to cup her jaw, firmly guiding her to lock eyes with you again. She and Jane were trading glances prior to your intervention. "Fine," you conclude. Sultry delight flashes across her features, broadening her smile into a smug smirk because of this 'win'. Before she can gloat to Jane, you lock your wrist and redirect her focus. "But you've got to lie back the whole time."

"What?" Ruby demands.

"You heard me."

With all the grace of a tased sloth, R flops over the back of the couch you're seated on, disrupting your reading. While their approach was silent enough to only now draw your attention away from the pages, J must've known in advance. There's a pillow already in position once R stops dangling from the Verner mansion's custom furniture, their head preemptively cushioned by its downy fluff. They land with a hushed 'oomph' that's muted in comparison to the worry pinching into J's expression.
