I love the more "low empathy" emphasis on Mal's emotions here, knowing it would be more 'normal' to act in familiar ways with MC but being unwilling yet TRUSTING of them with these 'harder-to-accept' parts of themselves with the MC. It's honestly touching, and makes everything they pour into the MC for comfort here mean so much more to me as a similarly low-emp person IRL. Their struggle, self-acceptance but simultaneous vulnerability in being unwilling to dampen their true self in such important moments is so captivating and meaningful. Definitely one of my favorite Mal stories yet, their dimension is wonderful, dark, and sympathetic.

Forgive me, but let me scream. Edit: I will not be covering the spicy section too much in terms of how hot it was so let me just say now AELSA THAT WAS SO HOT PLEASE TEACH ME YOUR WAYS OF WRITING. IT WAS SO GOOD. SO DELICIOUS. THANK U FOR THE GOURMET MEAL. I love how it makes so much sense why Mal looks at the desolate area with a warning. Like, I like my silly thoughts that a warning also comes because MC is there (I'll keep saying Zarina later because I got some Thoughts), the lighthouse and the northern star of his life. After getting ??? to act up previously too? I love how re-reading this made it so much more obvious. I love it. I love re-reading your writing, Aelsa. I always notice something new! I'll talk more about ??? and Mal stand off later as I get to it. I'm always searching for number 3 with Mal now, lmao. I just stare at this and go 'omg, it's three presences at Mal's! Mal, Zarina, and the kitten!'. Love how we get to see the pet lover Mal all over again. I will never forget his Disney Princess powers /j Also the "chill in the air he shouldn't feel"? I'm looking. I will overanalyze every sentence in my silly overworked state. ALSO THIS IS SO FUNNY BUT HEAR ME OUT. Zarina would do smth so silly too one time. Just for a laugh even if she knows Mal will never flinch or get spooked. She rarely flinches ever. Frosty privileges (/lh). I like the fact that Mal is looking for a tether in a physical touch. It keeps bringing the feels of Mal having those illusions/hallucinations from one of the one-shots. A physical is often grounding to people and here it's the same. The awakening of the humane side, softer side is so important, I'm looking. I love it because Zarina's similar, she seeks physical touch and presence of her safe person to know she's alright and to keep her away from being a 'beast/monster'. A reminder that a light of life and humanity is still lingering there. It goes further when Mal asks to touch him and only him, it's another physical touch. Skin to skin, life to life. "They can't really hurt me" / But you can. STOPPP AELSA IM GOING TO PERISH. The next words about 'find the man you need him to be in this moment' hurt me so bad, but I also remember your comment about how each MC will see a different side of Mal. How Frosties would get a less filtered Mal, perceive more, and such. It makes me wonder how this part will go for MalRina route in the future. It's so raw, it's so hurtful to read it. [Who are you, really?] question appearing. And the 'he's dangerous' makes me even sadder. Just what happened to you, Mal? IT also continues to come up in the comparison with 'solid yet fragile in comparison to what he's capable'. It speaks so loud in how Mal perceives himself. It also makes me think how Zarina would look at that and go 'And yet, you save me. Despite everything you're capable of, you make me feel the safest.' I also love the "Give me space." and "No." It's such a fascinating change of dynamic because you'd think if you push too hard, Mal will close off further, but here it's different. The fact that we actually get Mal to undress is a big thing too, making me think about how deep into romance it is since we know Mal prefers clothes on. The aspect of trust is so deeply felt here. Not a request. Having his heart. Samahian. ??? appearance. There are so many magical aspects of this that make me try to discern and search for more. I may as well be delulu. I mean, so much is connected to spirits, life/death, starting the 'darker part of the year', 'winter'. I mean, we know that ??? is often associated with cold/ice/frost, so it makes me wonder what could be there. I'll jumped all around. MAL THANK YOU FOR PROTECTING THE INNOCENT KITTEN. THANK YOU. Poor baby, mean men were taken care of. God, I teared up thinking about the cat's state. I like how tense the whole section with Mal feels. The not 'cuddly' mood is so obvious. There is no tether, the tension is rising, the 'he's dangerous', it's all felt through. The "Mal's not sloppy" and the interruption done by ??? speaks so much. From analytical point of view, the fact that Mal wasn't 'allowed' to finish what he started and HOW he wasn't allowed without 'permission' certainly makes sense about that unreleased tension. Maybe even anger, god, the way I was like 'I bet Mal's angry about being forced to 'ask for permission' there because holy SHIT that was tense'. The dominance aspect makes even more sense, especially with initiation. Because Mal prefers being the dominant one AND initiate first, which means it is HIS choice, it is HIS doing, and he is not powerless. Even if the situation he's in currently is so hopeless and powerless based on the glimpses we're getting of him through the story and information here. It's all about control with him, isn't it? The masks, the image of a server, the way he wants to be in Zarina's eyes. Everything must be controlled because he knows that ??? is there, making him feel helpless and lacking power. Ough, the way I'm eating my hands over this. He and Zarina understand each other so well about WHY they need that dominance and why giving it up for each other is so, so big. When you have no control, you need to find it somewhere to not go insane. "Their blood is beneath you, so unworthy". Ok that was so hot in Zarina's mind. I'm so sorry my twisted Frost Queen would never reject Mal covered in blood. Let me give you an insight as to why because it's a lot. Zarina sees the black cat, sees it hurt, and she remembers herself when she was abducted and hurt by bad people in her black dress. So to see that someone would go so far to protect someone innocent? It makes her brain feel relief, a strange sense of safety knowing that Mal would go so far. It's a bit selfish to switch it to herself, but it's the 'Mal would've protected me and made those people pay.' She wasn't protected back then, it was before she truly bonded with Beckett. She had to save herself, get out herself, so that's why she'd accept Mal regardless. Also, I think it's beautiful and emotional how you described the way Mal made MC's hand drag from his chest to his through to then his cheek. Because the throat is such a vulnerable place. Maybe I'm looking too into it. HEAR ME OUT, I LOVE INVOLVING POWERS. OH ITS SO MUCH FUN!! The way Mal allows MC to see what he allows. I'm saying MC here since MalRina route Zarina is more into sensing feelings, but god it's so fucking cool to see in the moment. Ohhh, ???, ohhhh you eldritch horror being. Respectfully, Zarina would happily be Mal's outlet. Disrespectfully too. But with a lot of love. Because, in a sense, Mal is her outlet too, in some instances. It's mutual. But she wants to be his outlet and safe place just like he becomes hers, he's saved her multiple times so she hopes there is a way to save him, too. In whatever way possible as long as they're both alive. She's the provocateur outside of Fernweh, like the control over himself he still exudes? Respect. She wouldn't be against him fall from the course once in a while~ *gets sprayed by holy water* Anyways, hot. Very hot. Also don't think I forget that Mal is the quieter lover in terms of letting out sounds. I REMEMBER!!! A MOAN FROM MAL??? WE'RE SO WINNING BROS AND SISTAHS AND NONBINEY FINEYS. The nails tho? Peak. Mal will know she loves her longer nails, we're so in for the fun. Also I love the "divorce arc" continuing with the ???, Mal and Zarina.
