In the far north lays a seed, dormant, waiting to be planted. Humanities greatest discovery and creation made manifest. The seed was once worshipped as a deity, it granted a blessing to the world, immortality, at least, that was what the researchers thought.
No longer did living beings age, hunger, or thirst, there body's freed from the shackles of time, but neither did they regenerate. No being could bare kin, blood no longer flowed from their bones, nor would their wounds heal, slowly they eroded into dust. Plants could no longer grow, only their hollow forms remained. Animals collapsed, the wear on their body's too much to survive.
Humans thought they had surpassed the natural law, but reality can only be altered not broken. Death would not simply disappear but change form in accordance with the new order. creatures hallowed by the void would soon begin to balance the world.
Great efforts would be made to contain the seed, but soon the cold began to set in.
