Saturn Illus. Processes & a Buuunch of Sketches/Extras

For some reason I really could not stop cranking stuff out last week so here are some of the results of that lol. Starting with the illustration, it was supposed to be just the first one! I'd been listening to a lot of Pretty Sick's music as you can guess by the HR animation, and they have a song called Saturn Return which I thought fit Leo a lot with his ringed eyes and all. I wanted to figure out how exactly to translate it into a piece and started with a composition which I liked, and straight up finished in like two hours. I was really happy with the first one, I especially had fun playing with the exclusion blend mode (the blue layer) which produced some really nice colors especially after re-overlaying orange. I edited the initial sketch but the moons weren't originally part of the idea, until I remembered that Saturn is actually considered "The Moon King" because it has the most moons out of any planet in our solar system! I thought that was such a cool concept and I started work on a second piece where now instead Leo was Saturn, and his eye glow kinda wraps around his head to be the rings!

But my issue is once I complete a piece it's really hard for me to do a second with the same concept. It's a similar issue to what happens if I lose work in a crash or something, it's suuuper hard for me to get motivated to redo it all again. So I struggled a bit more with the second one, there were a lot of anatomy and composition issues that I had to smooth out since I was working off the first sketch that came to mind post-Moon-King idea. I probably should've just cleaned up a better sketch but oh well! I mainly played with the same stuff again, exclusion and then reworking color back into the piece (since if you're not careful the blend mode can wash out your colors like craazy and you don't notice b/c you've been looking at it for too long). I wasn't gonna give him his ears but I caved because the composition worked a lot better with them and his hand, I don't like showing them off too much in general tho haha. Now I have this "Moon King AU" concept stuck in my head where I have no idea what the plot would be but it's neat! Maybe their powers would have to do with their zodiac's ruling planet? Except Leo's a Cancer so his is actually the moon (which is another coincidence I didn't plan). Idk if this rambling is making sense to anyone but maybe I'll make some more art in the future exploring it!

Finally a crap-ton of extras including the Control PMV thingie, idk I was just possessed to crank that out one afternoon so it was very unexpected. Sometimes that just happens 😭 I felt like drawing the wolf again, he's definitely the most fun since his silhouette can just be whatever. The following sketches aren't all super canon, I just like drawing out ideas for the heck of it sometimes. The wolf can't just take control of Leo whenever he wants in-canon, otherwise he'd be doing it all the time lmao. He only gets the one night a month!
