I actually managed to squeeze in a little mini-episode huzzah!! It's short but sweet, I just wanted to make it clear that Hex is not gone lol, he's actually gonna be extremely plot relevant after this arc! Also used it as an excuse to play with colors a bit just for fun. But yeah Hex is absolutely in love with Leo and misses him a lot, he's just as upset as everyone else that he doesn't have more screentime 🐈‍⬛

Anyway thought I'd lore dump a bit while I'm at it--Hex is Rowe’s biological(?) son, she made him when Hazel was ready :) Familiars don’t need a partner to reproduce (and their gender doesn’t matter either–familiars are kind of like real birds in that their gender is just sorta assumed by their witch based on vibes). Familiars’ true forms are actually the purple flames present in their combat modes. Their animal appearance is like a skin containing the flame, and it leaks out when they’re on the offense. They’re born from the embers of their parent at the parent’s will, so familiars choose when to reproduce. Their lifespans are a lot shorter if they don’t bond to a witch, as otherwise the flame made will naturally die out. Bonded they live for as long as their witch does, this usually happens when the witch is ~13 but not all witches choose to get a familiar. The familiar also has to choose the witch, if they don’t like you they won’t bond! Extra eyes increase based on the strength and maturity of the witch. Once bonded they take the form and mindset of any animal (on the smaller side) of the familiar’s choosing. Hex often keeps Rowena company when everyone’s away, he pretends to be annoyed about it but he’d never wanna leave her lonely 💜💚
