Chimera Ref
Added 2024-09-28 20:25:57 +0000 UTCPretty quick little reference for the chimera from EP10! I didn't spend a terrible amount of time on these since it's so minor. I tend to go with the flow when designing monsters and only do more exploration if I think it's necessary, but this guy only appears for one episode so I decided on a design pretty quick. Fun fact, the chimera they fight is a baby! That's why it's missing its mane & horns and isn't terribly powerful, that gets confirmed later on. I'm not really sure why I landed on a chimera of all things for the big "monster fight that introduces the characters to each-other" moment, I guess it was just the first thing that came to mind when determining supernatural creatures with animal intelligence. Maybe there's also some subconscious irony there with the whole lion head thing, since lion symbolism is pretty prominent throughout the story. The bottom right sketch was the first pass I did and then I just went straight to making a cleaner version, coloring it and whatnot. I had a lot of fun playing with the lighting as well, saturating the red hues a ton before contrasting that with Hazel's green magic. In this world, most supernatural creatures you can think of are real, and they aren't really contained to any specific area. Most non-humanoids just actively choose to avoid human society, but this one was being a little stinker. More in-comic explanations to come! š
