New Comfort Illustration Process & Misc. Sketches

I've really been trying to experiment as much as I can lately, it's been fun but also kind of weird! I'll think I'm done with something, but will come back to it and always find things to do different. I think maybe it's just the growing pains of improvement or something like that, it's this weird feeling of being both satisfied and not at the same time. But maybe that's just being an artist in general, idk! A lot of my recent illustrations have been starting as pretty simple concepts that get out of hand fast haha, I've just come to accept that the early drafts will always look a little off-model as a result. As long as I get there in the end that's all that matters, though. As you can probably tell, this one was all about color! I kept putting blend modes over the base drawing, thinking it was done, then coming back and going "no it needs to be more saturated." Now my eyes kind of hurt but it's fine. Playing with halftones was also fun, I want to try to do more of that. The song (can you believe it) that inspired this was Dsco by Sweet Trip!

Additionally I was doing a bunch of sketches and warmup stuff between figuring this one out, some of them I'll post some of them I won't. I've expressed I get a little self-conscious posting sketchy stuff but at this point my style is so ingrained into that look that it'd be a little silly not to. It's kind of based more on what I see other artists doing as opposed to what I want to post, but honestly! Sketchy art is my specialty, it's what I enjoy doing, so I should just post what I want! I think I get in my own head too much. The last two aren't WH related, just additional misc. stuff and a shoe study. The other character is named Monroe, she's from a story I have loose ideas for but I'm not super invested in. I mainly just made her as the OC I put cute clothes on haha. If I were to make a proper comic for her it would be after WH is done, which might take close to a decade depending on life... or longer...... We'll see.
