2019 in Review
Added 2019-12-30 19:41:44 +0000 UTCHello Everybody and welcome to our first ever year in review, this year 2019 has been a huge success for me and hope it was for you too.
Before we begin I created a discord if you'd like to join https://discord.gg/4emYQfZ
Now onto the talk about this year, in 2019 I finished quite a few translations starting out with Emiliana which was my first translation and though the translation was bad in my opinion and many others it still received praise as being better than the usual MTL trash that's spit out. After that I started the translation of Muchi Muchi Rural life and became disheartened when Kagura games picked it up because I expected them to be finished quickly, I could have finished it and they still haven't released any news on it, but I decided to release a broken mess that I still regret. I took a step back and chose small games, the H.H.Works games, starting with flash camping and doing the Cos Ro series as well. These small games proved a bit of trouble for me, I was able to finish them quickly but quite a lot of dialogue had no context for me to work off of so it had to be literal in every sense, but once again people seemed to enjoy them and a lot of negative reviews were for the games being short/repetitive/ or outright random with no direction. The next game I translated was Lilia's Livelihood, a game that was actually going to be translated a lot sooned but another person said they'd pick it up, I found it still on the request list and decided after the failure of my poll where the game that won I couldn't translate and still can't and the second place winner was picked up by Kagura(they tend to translate a lot of games I want to translate, like Emiliana) so I just chose one that I knew wouldn't be too hard and still received votes. I picked up Emblem Knightess Nord after that and have been working through it, common events while short are still what are giving me the most trouble but I'm happy to say I am well over half way finished even with the holidays, I will be working to finish that off and test it during January.
Barkeeper my own game in development has a new artist on board who seems quite enthusiastic about the project and the future of Eventide Games, Ayzu is an artist that approached me when I mentioned I was looking for artist and the only ones that had replied seemed to run for the hills after I gave them a small test and an overview of the project, I think they got scared of how much I wanted to do on a relatively small project. Me and Ayzu have been working out all that is needed in Barkeeper and giving them priorities so that they know what should be done first, so hopefully soon I'll have something to share with all of you. Over the past few month I've been developing the game at a slow pace due to the lack of art and story direction, I managed to figure out most of the details of the story and only have a few things to work out before development is the main concern, art with the help of the new artist should be coming into the game during January.
The Future, what are our plans, what do we want to do? Translations will continue as planned and the poll seems to have been a success with plenty of votes, I'll close it out the day that I finish Nord and release the translation, then translation on the next project should start so you still have time to vote if your choice is behind. Barkeeper will continue to develop over the course of the year and I hope for it to be finished or close to finished before the year is over. Once Barkeeper is finished I have plans for more games and will discuss with Ayzu whether they want to continue working with me and if yes then we will decide in a direction to go and whether to continue in RPGMaker or maybe try out Unity, we'll see when we get there.
Discord was something I had been planning to use to increase the eventide communities communication for a while, once Ayzu came on board I made the decision to make it public and invite you all in. I'm not sure what you'd all like so I tried to cater to a few types that I know might follow me, Game developers/translators and pervs, I made a section for anyone to ask questions about game development and translation as well as a NSFW section and meme section. So if you're any of these or just want to check it out, come on in!
Well, that's it for 2019 in review, I'm hoping over the next year I'll improve this format as well as all my other projects, and that I'll be able to keep doing this.
Have a Happy New Year and I'll see you all in 2020!
