What a Week
Added 2025-06-03 18:31:52 +0000 UTCGood morning everyone. I say morning, because technically 4:00am is the morning, but I have not slept.
It is not often I regret taking some time for myself, as I did last Friday for a spontaneous date night, but the subsequent shitstorm has left me regretting not putting in the editing work I put off. Our housemate brought back this year's flu, so I spent most of the weekend running a low fever and contemplating the merits of a sharp object through one's eye. I am not 100%, but I sat down this afternoon determined to get caught up.
Less than a half-hour into my work I get a call. My mother was being rushed to the hospital with a numb arm among other things. Even now I am anxiously waiting for updates and test results. At the very least, she was able to speak and we shared some 'just in case' I love yous but fuck do you never want to share those. It is better than the alternative, I suppose, but- I am sleep deprived and rambling.
Anyway, my point is, missing two chapters when folks are paying for them is a bummer, so I think I'm going to treat them like vacations 'days' from now on. Here's the dealio, I drop 8 chapters a month. Including Friday, we are now at 2/8. If life happens and I miss a release, I'll up the counter (I'll pin something in my Discord for folks to keep track of as well). When we hit 8/8 I pause Patreon payments for a month.
Is it a perfect system? Probably not, but I want to do my best to do right by y'all while still leaving myself room to be a flawed human being in a world that wants to kick my ass every now and then. I am not special in that regard - it kicks everyone's ass every now and then - but I think that's what makes us so good at empathising with people. We've all been there, wherever there may be.
