NEW VIDEO: The Drug That Works TOO Well?

Comments

I stand by my view that this video is a disappointment. As I mentioned in my previous comment, I believe you've under-represented a large section of the population for whom taking amphetamines is actually a safer long-term option. Given that, it’s hard for me to have confidence in your other videos moving forward.

It's my favorite video!

Positions I wish you’d considered before releasing this video: Reduced mortality with treatment. Large-scale cohort studies show that ADHD medication reduces mortality from unnatural causes (accidents, suicides, overdoses). For example, a Québec population study (n=217,192, ages ≤24) found up to a 39% lower risk of all-cause mortality during medicated periods compared to unmedicated (Translational Psychiatry, 2024). Quality of life cannot be minimised. Anecdotally speaking, and clinically, the ability to think clearly, sustain focus, and achieve in a chosen career translates into stability: maintaining employment, affording healthcare and insurance, and reducing risks linked to impulsivity and inattention. This shouldn’t be brushed off with a single sentence. Risks are real but manageable. Side effects such as impacts on heart rate, blood pressure, or mood can be monitored and addressed medically. These risks pale in comparison to the broader benefits: preserving relationships, preventing accidental harm, and enabling individuals not only to function in society but to thrive as contributing members.

It's a good video, but I feel like it is missing a very important part: Most drugs have a fundamentally different effect on people with ADHD. I have several stories from people who discovered they have it because Cocaine does nothing for them, or they fall asleep from uppers. Personally, weed has no effect on me. This video only discusses the effect of Amphetamines from the perspective of Neurotypical people, and glosses over ADHD with a single "unless you have an underlying condition". Is that side of the story going to be its own video? Because I already have stories of parents that refused to get their child with ADHD medication because they were afraid of the label of drugs, when said child could have really benefited from medication.
