I am glad you watched it! I have to say it's important to remember the times with this story. Same for books/movies like Anne of Green Gables, who live with older people. Back in the past, especially in like the 18th century, children were expected to be "seen, and not heard" and basically act like mini adults. And adults often took in children out of "obligation" -not because they want too, or care a lot about the child. I am SO glad things have changed in THAT regard Edit: And plus why the maids were so brisk with her was it was another person to wait on. They worked long hours, with very little pay. So no wonder they were always grumpy, lol
