I definitely agree that this isn't as good at the first. I feel like they had really good ideas present... but I honestly would have preferred a much longer puberty arc rather than a teenager starting puberty and then discovering herself within 3 days and then like a happy fairy tale ice skating ending(?). I feel like a lot of the "emotions" were just sorta there for the sake of it rather than actually having any depth or meaning to them like they did in the first.
