I've never seen it as a commercial for pottery barn. If anything, it was critical of Pottery Barn and their mass produced "everyone has the same stuff" look/lifestyle. It's pretty much how people/shows make fun of IKEA today. That's how I've always seen it anyway.

It’s just a blatant 20-ish minute commercial for Pottery Barn, and as someone who lives in a country where there are no Pottery Barn stores it felt even more uninteresting. I also feel like the Janine subplot ended up being pointless. It would have been better if she and Joey dated a few episodes at least before breaking up. I really love Chandler’s little speech to Monica though in the last episode. It’s a real ”I love and accept you for who you are” moment. Plus I kinda like the earlier scene with them in bed. They’re both talking about their own thing but they very clearly still listen to each other as well. I also can’t help but notice that Monica is now sleeping on the left side of the bed, whereas she previously said she had to sleep on the right. I know it’s just a production gaff/ continuity error, but I still like to believe that Chandler also wanted to sleep on the right side and she was willing to give that up for him.
