2021 Hall of Fame Ballot, a breakdown

Inspired by the Patreon Video Q&A, I decided to just make a long form breakdown of the Hall of Fame ballot on Foolish Bailey this week.

Happy Holidays!

The player's union obviously played their part, but such a thing could have, and should have been collectively bargained. Selig had no interest in that. I'm not using the Sosa/Ortiz equivalency to say that they're both sketchy. I'm saying that neither are particularly that sketchy. I also don't believe in casting suspicion on someone purely for the era they play in. I think if Edwin Encarnacion or Jose Bautista followed the same aging/power curve in the 90s, a lot of people would make assumptions that they cheated.

So, a couple thoughts. I would love to hear your reasoning on why you think Selig knew and did nothing regarding PEDs. My take has always been that the player's union was the driving force against testing, and that there wasn't enough desire from the owners to challenge them after having lost in the last player's strike. Second, comparing Sosa and Ortiz, even if both truly did test positive, seems sketchy considering Sosa played primarily in an era without testing while Ortiz, especially his best years, were during testing. Anyway, great videos as always.
