Swallowed by the deal: Fashion's Virtual Demise (Story & Video)

Lena had just turned 25, and her career in fashion was already evolving in ways she hadn’t expected. She’d taken her talent to the VR community, using her smartphone and VR headset as her main tools of communication. In the virtual world, she was a force to be reckoned with, designing exclusive pieces and interacting with clients from all corners of the globe. But in the real world, things were slipping. Deadlines were being missed, and her boss, Ms. Delaney, was fuming.

“Lena, we need to talk,” Ms. Delaney said sharply one day, but Lena’s attention was already lost, absorbed in her headset. She nodded absentmindedly, swiping through her virtual tasks, trying to close deals in the artificial world she preferred. Ms. Delaney watched, her jaw tightening. She had warned Lena multiple times, but nothing had changed.

It was costing the company money—exclusive contracts were slipping through their fingers—and Ms. Delaney had had enough. A plan began to form in her mind, one that would teach Lena a lesson she wouldn’t forget.

The next day, Lena received an urgent message from Ms. Delaney: a private VR meeting with an important client. The message included a special pin code to join the meeting. Lena, eager to make amends for her distracted behavior, entered the code without a second thought.

As soon as she entered the virtual room, something felt off. Her surroundings seemed to warp, and Lena felt her body begin to shrink. The sleek, digital boardroom morphed into a giant, towering version of itself, and she found herself standing on what felt like a massive table. Confused but still fixated on the job, she assumed it was just a glitch. Maybe a new feature?

A shadow loomed over her. Lena looked up, expecting to see her virtual client. Instead, it was Ms. Delaney, impossibly large, a smirk playing at the corners of her lips. “You’ve been so focused on your deals, Lena,” Ms. Delaney said, her voice booming like thunder. “Maybe it’s time you faced the consequences.”

Before Lena could process what was happening, Ms. Delaney reached down and scooped her up in one fluid motion. Lena, still lost in her VR environment, thought it was part of the deal—a strange, interactive feature in the virtual world.

Ms. Delaney lifted Lena to her mouth and swallowed her whole, feeling the tiny figure slide down her throat. As Lena tumbled down into her boss’s stomach, she was still frantically trying to communicate with what she thought was a client, oblivious to the fact that the meeting—and her fate—were both a cruel setup.

Inside the dark, warm confines of her boss’s stomach, Lena’s VR headset flickered, struggling to keep up. “We’ve almost closed this deal,” she muttered to herself, fingers tapping invisible keys. “Just one more contract.”

But there were no contracts, no clients. The only thing left for Lena was the slow realization that this deal—like her career—was already over.
