The air inside the jail was thick with the scent of sweat, metal, and something stale—like time that had long since stopped moving. Officer Kim Jisoo sighed, her stomach growling audibly as she stepped into the processing room. She hadn’t eaten all day, and the hunger was making her impatient. But she had a job to do.
Across the table, the prisoner sat in his bright orange jumpsuit, grinning like a man who had been promised the world. His name was Choi Minjae, and today was his lucky day—after ten long years, he was finally free.
Jisoo picked up the paperwork and set it down with a heavy slap. “Minjae, before we finish this, I need to ask you something,” she said, her dark eyes scanning him with quiet intensity. Minjae stretched his fingers, flexing his wrists as if savoring the freedom he had not yet earned. “Yeah?” Jisoo leaned forward. “Do you feel sorry for what you did?” Minjae’s grin widened. “I did what I had to do.”
She expected that answer. They always said the same thing—the unrepentant ones, the ones who would walk out just to hurt someone else again. But not this time. She took his hand and pressed his fingers onto the ink pad, then onto the release form. That’s when it started. At first, Minjae thought it was just dizziness from standing too fast. But then he noticed his sleeves were slipping past his wrists. His feet barely touched the ground.
“What the—?” His voice cracked as he shrank, his body withering inch by inch. His orange jumpsuit grew loose, folding around him like an empty husk. Minjae’s head snapped up to Jisoo. She was watching him, her lips curving into a hungry smile. And then—her mouth opened. It didn’t just open. It stretched, her jaw unhinging impossibly wide, revealing a cavernous darkness lined with glistening teeth. A deep rumble came from her stomach, and Minjae—now no larger than a doll—felt his blood turn to ice. “No… no, please—” He scrambled back, but her fingers closed around him like iron shackles. “You had ten years to regret what you did,” she murmured. “But now… now you’ll regret it forever.” With a single tilt of her head, she dropped him past her lips. Minjae screamed as he slid over her tongue, down her throat, and into the humid, pulsing prison of her stomach. Inside, the heat was unbearable. The walls clenched around him, squeezing tight. Acid bubbled at his feet. For the first time in his life, he felt real remorse.
