Hi there!
For the new set of sketches, we asked Grafit’s art director, Lev Boyko, to share his thoughts and feelings about this challenge. He started everyday drawing from life nearly eleven months ago, so his valuable insights could help artists form their expectations from this process.
“It is all individual, but I have noticed the first results after three months of consecutive drawing — nearly the same time when my everyday drawing practices formed as a habit. Or maybe it is better to say I began to feel humble in a way”, Lev told us.
“I began to feel the proportions of the model better. Somewhere between three and five months, I have noticed improvements in hand motor skills and control over the material.”
“Looking back at the works I made last year, right before this challenge, I see lots of excessive touches and visual rubbish. I have questions to myself about the overall quality of execution and proportions. It is a much less cohesive work than my later sketches”, Lev added.
The last advice for today is to keep drawing no matter what. One day you feel inspiration, and the other day nothing goes right, despite the same working conditions and great model. You have to overcome this and continue your work, even if you feel frustrated with the process.
We hope this was useful. Feel free to share your personal experience and your path as an artist in the comments.
