It was the perfect month to read this book bc the trees got leaves again, reading FTMT made me even more appreciative of that. Also love the full color picture spreads!! (my edition has them at least) Can u tell i have not yet finished the book lol

This book took me a while to get into it, I think partially because of how densly written it is, but also since English is not my first language I had to look up most plant species mentioned (haven’t been this humbled by an english book in a while😭). After the first 100 pages I really fell into it, tho. I had no idea about so many things mentioned, but found them very interesting (for example, in school I only learnt about the tree roots and fungi as an example of symbiosis, but nothing about different trees being connected as well). My favorite parts, however, were when she talked about herself, feeling lost between her passion for nature/science and the policies or other stuff outside her control (like being a woman in a male dominated field), and also trying to find balance between her career and personal life. Despite struggling with the book at first I ended up loving how at times it almost felt like a textbook, and then the next chapter would be more personal to make it more of a memoir. Overall I have to say I would’ve never picked up this book on my own, it was so far out of my comfort zone, but I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I first thought I would.
