Process for one of my recent paintings! Continuing to explore more storytelling + humour in my work. Reference board attached below!
I've spoken about this a bit with some people I've met over the weekend at lightbox expo, but I think with the continued saturation of ai content on the internet, there's more demand for authenticity rather than perfection.
A technically perfect painting which is very visually impressive would get you a lot of attention 5 years ago on the internet, because only a human could've made it. But now, the landscape has shifted in a way where that same technically perfect image will just raise suspicion from casual viewers, who might immediately dismiss it as possibly being ai.
The silver lining is that this should help us in suppressing our inner perfectionists as artists. It's still just as important to have strong fundamentals to draw well, but not every piece needs to be polished to 110%, especially not now. You can allow your lines to be loose and your brushstrokes to be visible. Allow your humanity and imperfections to show through your work and the way you tell your stories.
So this is one of the reasons why I'm personally exploring more lighthearted, authentic panels of storytelling and growing my work in this direction. Hope this was an insightful blurb :)
